Our Hermit Crab Haven consists of:
Red Haven: This is our quarantine/isolation tank that is used for hermit crabs that may need a bit of extra TLC. For example, injured or unwell hermies and surface moulters.
Kreisel tank: Once our personal hermies start laying eggs, we get some zoea (planktonic larval form of hermies). These zoea resemble tiny shrimp and need to be kept in salt water. A kreisel tank incorporates curved edges to ensure the safety of fragile species.
Orange Haven: Once the zoea has had a few moults will reach megalopa (post-larval stage). This is when they start choosing their shells and then they can use this space to make their transition to land where they will have their first land moult to become hermies!
Yellow Haven: This is our grow-out tank for future captive-bred hermies and small rescues that we’d like to see get a bit bigger before adopting them out. It is currently home to our hermies Pearl, Button, Luna and Misty.
Green Haven: This is our personal hermies' tank home to Blossom, Altas, Sandy, Neptune, Magnus, Boba, Summer, Rosa, Clawdia, Shelley, Sashimi, Bubbles, Poseidon, Ripley, Alcatraz and Iris. Their area incorporates two 4ft tanks giving them 600 litres of space.
Blue Haven: This tank is dedicated to our rescues. It is where they are rehabilitated for four weeks or more before finding their forever home.
Purple Haven: This is a tank I set up for Taylah as her First crabitat, home to her first hermies Violet, Lavender and Mulberry
